8-Step UV Printing Workflow in Karachi To Prevent Failures
Here is our behind the scenes UV printing process that proves our high-quality production!
Step 1: Free File Check
Every job at Stampare Productions starts with a free file check. We audit your file for three things that cause most failures.
First, we check the white layer. Is the layer named Spot_White? Is it a 100% K vector file? If you print on black acrylic without white, the color will look transparent. We fix that in the file check.
Second, we check the gloss layer. If you ordered spot gloss, is the layer named Spot_Gloss overprint and set to overprint? Many designers send gloss as gray CMYK, which prints as gray ink, not clear gloss.
Third, we check the ink limit. We use an ink limit of 220% for acrylic and 200% for wood. If your file has 350% ink, the print stays wet and peels. We reduce it during the file check.
We do this free file check for every job within 2 hours. This step alone prevents 40% of failures.
Step 2: Material Inspection
Cheap shops use whatever material is the cheapest that day. We inspect every sheet before it touches the printer.
For acrylic, we use calipers that measure thickness. A sheet sold as 3 mm is often 2.6 mm. Thin acrylic warps under UV lamps and scratches easier. We reject it.
For aluminum composite, we check aluminum flatness. If the sheet is bowed by 2 mm, the print head crashes and leaves white lines. We also check the protective film for dust underneath.
For wood, we check wood moisture with a wood moisture meter. Wood with 12% moisture creates outgas bubbles under UV curing. We dry it or reject it.

Step 3: Isopropyl Wipe at 99%
This is the step most shops skip to save 10 minutes. We never skip it.
We wipe every sheet with an isopropyl wipe at 99% to remove oil from the hands' factory coating. Then we apply a primer or adhesion promoter for acrylic and aluminum. The primer is a clear liquid that chemically bonds ink to the material. Without it, ink peels with tape.
Finally, we wipe it with a tack cloth. The tack cloth picks up invisible dust and pinhole bubbles. One speck of dust under the ink becomes a bubble that looks like a pinhole. No dust means no bubbles. This 15-minute prep is why our prints do not peel.
Step 4: Test Print 10x10 cm
We never run a full sheet without a test. We offer a test print that’s a 10x10 cm swatch of your actual artwork on your actual material, with the exact white and gloss settings. Then we run three tests on the swatch.
The adhesion tape test or UV printing adhesion test uses 3M 610 tape. We stick tape firmly on the print and pull fast at 90 degrees. If more than 5% of ink lifts, it’s a failure and the job stops. We re-prime and reprint. A 95% retention passes the test.
The lux check and gloss check measure gloss. If you ordered high gloss but the swatch reads "matte," we adjust the lamp’s power. You approve the color and adhesion before we print the full quantity. This prevents full-sheet reprints.
Step 5: Full Print and Layered Pass for White
Now we run a full print on our in-house UV flatbed. The printer prints in layers.
The first pass is white. For black materials, we use double strike white with 95% opacity. A single strike with white at 60% looks gray.
The second pass is a CMYK color pass.
The third pass is texture build-up, a layered pass, or spot gloss if ordered. For a 1 mm thick layered build-up or braille, we run 6 to 10 passes with clear 0.1 mm per pass on the same spot. Each pass is 0.1 mm.
We monitor curing. UV lamps cure instantly, but too much curing lamp power makes acrylic yellow. Too little curing makes ink soft. Our operator watches the first two sheets for curing.
Step 6: Clearcoat Application
If your job needs extra durability, we apply a clearcoat. Clearcoat application is not just about printing clear ink. For a hard coat level 3 and a 2K automotive clear coat level 5, we use a dust-free booth spray.
After spray, the sheet goes through a 2-hour cure under the UV lamp and then rests. Many shops deliver right after printing when the clear is still soft. A soft clear coat scratches in transport. We wait until the hardness reaches 6H hardness for a hard coat and 9H hardness for 2K.

Step 7: Quality Control Tests
Every sheet goes through a final QC test before packing. We have three tests.
Scratch test or UV printing quality test: We use a pencil hardness tester of 2H to 9H. A level 2 clearcoat must pass a 4H coin or 6H key test. A level 3 hard coat must pass a 6H key test. We test an edge that can be trimmed.
Water test—drop for 10 minutes for whitening: We put a drop of water on a print for 10 minutes. If the water whitens or lifts the ink, the primer has failed. We reject that sheet.
Sun fade simulation: We put a swatch under 1000W of UV lamp light for 24 hours, which simulates 6 months of Karachi sun. We check the color shift with a spectrophotometer. If we detect a color shift of Delta E over 5, it means the ink limit is too high.
All these tests make up UV printing quality control.
Step 8: Packing with Foam
Even a perfect print can scratch in a rickshaw. Our packing prevents that.
We pack with foam (foam interleaving) between the sheets, corner guards for acrylic, and edge tape to prevent chipping. For large sheets over 4 feet, we pack them on a hardboard shrink wrap that’s not rolled.

1. How long does your 8-step workflow take?

We use ASTM D3359 3M 610 tape, press firmly on the cured print, and pull fast at 90 degrees. If less than 5% ink lifts in the crosshatch area, it passes. This is the ASTM D3359 standard. Bare acrylic without primer fails at 80%. With primer, it passes 95% retention.
3. Why charge for a primer and clearcoat?
A Rs 30 primer and an Rs 180 hard coat prevent peeling. Primer costs Rs 30 per sq ft, and hard coat clearcoat costs Rs 180 per sq ft, but they prevent peeling and scratching. Without primer, the acrylic print peels in 6 months outdoors. Without a hard coat, the high-touch menu scratches in 2 months. The extra cost saves a reprint cost of Rs 450 per sq ft.
5. What is the difference between in-house vs outsourced UV printing?
"Outsourced" means that the shop takes your order and sends it to another printer. They have no control over prep or QC. "In-house" means that we own our machine, do all 8 steps ourselves, and can reprint the same day if QC fails.
